Livingston County lies along the Genesee River, which has carved deep gorges and valleys throughout the region. These features, combined with rural communities and agricultural land, give the county a setting that feels both expansive and closely tied to its natural surroundings.

One of the county’s best-known destinations is Letchworth State Park, which spans more than 14,000 acres along a 17-mile stretch of the Genesee River. The park features steep gorge walls rising hundreds of feet and three major waterfalls, Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls. With more than 60 miles of trails, visitors can hike, bike, or explore scenic overlooks that follow the river through the park. The park also offers opportunities for whitewater rafting, hot air balloon rides, and seasonal activities such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Livingston County’s communities also reflect a long history and active local culture. Geneseo, the county seat, serves as a central hub for government, education, and community life. Its Main Street features a well‑preserved collection of 19th‑century buildings within a designated historic district, along with a mix of shops, restaurants, and public spaces that remain active today. The village is also home to SUNY Geneseo, whose campus and student population contribute to local events, dining, and day‑to‑day activity throughout the year. Beyond the village center, agriculture continues to play an important role across the county, supported by local farms and markets in many communities.

Together, these natural features and community spaces shape a county that is strongly connected to both its landscape and its history. We’re pleased to feature Livingston County in this month’s Member Spotlight and highlight the places and experiences that define the Genesee Valley region.
