Art lovers shouldn’t miss the Olana State Historic Site. Once the home of Frederic Edwin Church, a leading Hudson River School painter, Olana is an architectural and landscape marvel. Visitors can explore the Persian-inspired mansion, wander through the beautifully designed grounds, and enjoy spectacular views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. 

For history enthusiasts, the Columbia County Historical Society Museum & Library in Kinderhook is a treasure trove of local heritage. The museum features exhibits that highlight the county’s rich past, displaying artifacts, historical documents, and rotating exhibits. The society also oversees several historic sites, including the James Vanderpoel House and the Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse, which are well worth exploring.

Did you know that Columbia County is home to New York States Oldest surviving theater.  The Hudson Opera House, now known as Hudson Hall, is a historic and landmarked building that provides a year-round calendar of visual arts, performing arts, and cultural and educational events to engage and enrich the community.
