For August, we are pleased to spotlight our member, Cattaraugus County. Cattaraugus County has been a MEGA member for more than a decade and is represented on the board of directors by Crystal Abers.
Established in 1808 and later organized in 1817, Cattaraugus is a Western New York County with its southern boundary bordering Pennsylvania. Its recreational opportunities and stunning scenery are enjoyed year-round by residents and visitors. The county is home to New York’s largest State Park, Allegany State Park, which is impressively also the 3rd largest state park in the United States. Miles of cross-country skiing, hiking, and multi-use trails traverse the park’s 65,000 acres.
Beyond the Allegany State Park, Cattaraugus County offers opportunities to enjoy history, recreation, art, farm-fresh food, boating, and gaming. Popular locations include to the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum, Amish Trail, Holiday Valley Resort, HoliMont Bike Park, Griffis Sculpture Park or Seneca-Allegany Resort & Casino. With fall just around the corner, enjoy the fruits of the county’s rolling farms, including Pumpkinville where you can get lost (and found) in a 6-acre corn maze to find messages and win prizes! For a listing of all the County’s Enchanted Mountains of Western New York has to offer visit: enchantedmountains.com.
With a population of just over 75,000 people, Cattaraugus County is overseen by an appointed County Administrator serving an elected governing body, the Cattaraugus County Legislature. The county boasts many benefits for residents and visitors, including a 23.2 minute average community time for its work force and a wide range of industrial, retail, and academic employers, including the CUTCO Cutlery International Headquarters and St. Bonaventure University. The County also has Microenterprise Assistance Program that is now accepting grant applications for businesses with an interest in starting or expanding a business in Cattaraugus County.
MEGA is proud to serve Cattaraugus County and invites everyone to visit to partake in the beauty and resources this area offers to all who pass through.
