Secures Long-Term Supply Options for NY Counties, Local Governments, and School Districts
The winning bids were awarded to Constellation Energy for electricity supply and NRG for gas supply. MEGA Board Chairman Mark P. Taylor explains, “MEGA was formed as a non-profit in 1998 by a group of counties to help NY municipalities leverage their group buying power to reduce energy expenses and risk to volatility. Our volunteer board members are municipal officials from our member communities. Unlike for-profit brokers and consultants, our sole purpose is providing our members with the best energy supply contracts for their needs.”
“MEGA’s procurement process ensures that our members check all the right boxes and get the most competitive terms and conditions, says Mark LaVigne, Executive Director. “It is critical for us to provide complete and fully transparent pricing, which ensures our members can compare apples to apples and avoid paying hidden margins and commissions that are so rampant in this marketplace.”
In addition to fixed and variable-priced contracts for electric and gas supply, MEGA can support the adoption of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainability efforts, including fleet electrification and community solar.
MEGA is governed by a Board of Directors elected from its participating members. MEGA’s governance represents board members from 10 different counties. Allegany, Clinton, Oneida, and Otsego counties have recently added representatives to the Board.
