April 13th, 2012
Cooperstown, New York - Ronald Feldstein, former President of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance, was named Executive Director at the MEGA annual meeting in Cooperstown this week. "I have had the privilege of serving as Otsego County's representative to MEGA since 2001 and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of the future. I'm proud of MEGA's track record of savings and stability in energy prices to our clients, especially local governments who are faced with intense budget pressures," said Feldstein.
MEGA's executive director since 2006, Barbara Blanchard, will move to a new position focusing on Customer Relations. Otsego County Legislator Richard Murphy will replace Feldstein as the county's representative to the MEGA Corporation. "I look forward to working with Ron to sign up more of our municipalities and others interested in lowering their utility bills," said Murphy. In other business, the MEGA Board, elected Douglas Barton, Economic Development Director in Tioga County, president of the corporation.
MEGA, a non-profit corporation with a public service orientation, was established by several county governments in New York's southern tier in the late '90s to help municipalities lower their energy cost. MEGA also serves private industry, businesses, non-profit groups and residential customers of electricity and natural gas throughout Upstate New York. In 2008, the NYS Association of Counties designated MEGA as the preferred energy procurement program for its member counties and affiliates.
MEGA also supports renewal energy by offering participants an opportunity to purchase Renewable Energy Credits generated through wind, solar, hydro and biomass installations. MEGA works with professional energy consultants and procurement specialists, at no cost to participants, to secure the best prices and terms available in today's complex and evolving energy marketplace.
